Go Green

Today is a great day to remind us to go green. It can be easier than you think. There are many options available to implement into your home without going to the extreme- “off grid.” Below are 10 easy ideas everyone can do to go green and help lessen the impact on our environment and your wallet.

1) Update appliances to energy-efficient models.

2) Recycle electronics.

3) Replacing windows with double pane options or make them airtight.

4) Fix a leaky faucet or toilet.

5) Turn of lights.

6) Swap light bulbs with compact fluorescent ones. (Even just changing a few makes a difference.)

7) Use a programmable thermostat.

8) Find creative ways to reuse items.

9) Set your fridge between 37 and 40 degrees.

10) Open window treatments to bring in the sun during the day in the winter, and close them in the summer.

When remodeling, look for the energy saving label and use green materials whenever possible. For example, Terrazzo countertops or a direct-vent gas fireplace might make for more eco-friendly choices. Also, use low-VOC paints and eco-friendly cleaning products whenever possible. Remember, natural choices are the best when trying to go green. Just use a little common sense and going green becomes a natural. Smart design not only can maximum energy efficiency but make your space more inviting. Planning for low maintenance items —especially outside, can save you time and money in the long run as well.

So, consider “going green” whenever possible and make your friends “green with envy” as well as put more “green” in your pocketbook.

Does it feel like your room is missing something? Often it has to do with the scale or placement of your items or just adding some “finishing touches” to the space. With a little fine tuning and planning, you can make a space feel warm and inviting.

When placing accessories, decorate with odd numbers–groups of 3 or 5. This is proven to be more pleasing to the eye. Use various heights, sizes and colors as well mixing patterns to add character to a space. Try not to be so matchy-matchy with color. Often, just replacing a pillow form with a down filled insert can give a more luxurious feel, and a touch of Mother Nature can fill a void.

In addition, choosing the right mix of textiles and textures to a space can make a huge difference. Adding designer wall coverings, soft windows treatments, re-upholstering seat cushions, layering with pillows or adding a throw can really go a long way in finishing your decor.

Finally. decorate with items you love. Accessories that reflect you and your family’s tastes can really add personality and bring some life into your home. Just as jewelry can make a fashion statement, so can the accessories you choose for a room. Don’t be afraid to bring something unexpected into a room. Call D3SIGNCUBE™ for help or for sourcing options.

Ever run across an item that just makes you smile? You can add a touch of whimsy to any style. Whimsy can be quaint, yet fanciful making for a great conversation piece. One way to add a little whimsical charm to a room is to play with color. Color can create a focus. For instance, take a classic or traditional piece of furniture and paint it electric blue, hot pink or reupholster it with a fun fabric. Even safer, just add a splash of color with pillows or a throw. Don’t be afraid to buy items that make you happy or that you love!

Whether it is with color, in a picture or wall covering, an interesting lighting piece, favorite quotes enlarged on your wall or with accessories, D3SIGNCUBE™ can help you find the perfect piece for your space.

Pops of Color

Want to add a pop of color to your space? Color can transform a space as well as how you feel in general. Seems most people want to put more color in their home but are often paralyzed when it comes to committing to incorporating color into their designs. Remember that a little color can go a long way to waking up a room. The 80/20 rule is useful when considering color for a room- about 80% of your space is neutral and only about 20% color. Adding color can be simple with artwork or home decor. Sometimes just placing the right piece in an area can make the biggest impact. Unique and colorful accents can be uplifting and fun.

TRANSFORM YOUR SPACE WITH UNEXPECTED BLASTS OF COLOR! Let us help you put a little color in your world.

Every year, Pantone selects a new color of the year that will be used in many products and applications that year. For 2022, Pantone selected a periwinkle color: “Very Peri.” They claim it exhibits a “spritely, joyous attitude” that “encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expression.” They feel it evokes the “transition we are going through.”

Peri Very is a periwinkle blue with violet-red undertones. Pantone representatives explain, “As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways,” a news release reads. “Digital design helps us to stretch the limits of reality, opening the door to a dynamic virtual world where we can explore and create new color possibilities.”

Color affects us all in many different ways. Let’s all hope for a great 2022! We hope to hear from you.
