Does it feel like your room is missing something? It is not that you don’t have style, but sometimes you need a little help making a space feel complete. Often it has to do with the scale or placement of your items. With a little fine tuning and planning, you can make a space feel warm and inviting.
When placing accessories, it is recommended you decorate with odd numbers —groups of 3 or 5. This has proven to be more pleasing to the eye. It is also recommended to vary not only size and texture but colors as well. Try not to be so matchy-matchy with color, and don’t be afraid to mix patterns either as this will add a little character to a space. Just replacing a pillow form with a down filled insert can give a more luxurious feel, and a touch of Mother Nature can fill a void.
Many times we find that textiles can warm a space. Sometimes it is not color you need but the softness a fabric can bring—especially with window treatments. Just adding side panels or a valance can complete the look of a room like we did in the photo above. Replacing the fabric on seat cushions in a dining room, simply layering with pillows or adding a throw can really go a long way in finishing your decor. Don’t be afraid to add a bold pattern or color to a boring space or to bring something unexpected in to a room.
Decorate with items you love. Accessories that reflect you and your family’s tastes can really add personality and bring some life into your home. Just as jewelry can make a fashion statement and often change the look and feel of an outfit, so can the accessories you choose for a room. Don’t be afraid to try different things, and have fun with adding the finishing touches to your room.
